Pamela Wilson (Pamela Wilson Psychotherapy)
I trained as a therapist at Goddard College’s graduate program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling and completed my clinical training hours at a domestic violence agency. I take an eclectic, holistic approach to counseling and tailor my work with clients to each individual’s needs. My theoretical foundation is humanistic and highly collaborative. Considering each individual’s needs, strengths and goals, I pull from cognitive-behavioral, somatic, narrative, gestalt/mindfulness-based and expressive arts traditions.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I provided perinatal counseling and support as a birth doula and Lamaze certified childbirth educator, specializing in working with women with histories of abuse or assault, mental health disabilities and addictions. I have provided counseling out of a women’s health clinic, a domestic violence shelter, several family medicine practices, a progressive school for pregnant teenagers, a special needs adoption agency and a GLBT-focused health center. In addition to spending ten years supporting women and families, I have traveled extensively to train counselors, home visitors, birth workers and medical providers throughout the country on how to provide trauma-informed, affirming care across the spectrum of reproductive health and childbearing experiences.
I have a small, part-time private practice and relatively specific focus on reproductive and perinatal mental health, including pregnancy/infant loss. My practice is typically full or almost full. I tend not advertise when I have space available, because those openings fill up relatively quickly. That said, I do try to make space as best I can for pregnant GLBT+ folks or queer/non-binary folks who have experienced stillbirth, infant loss or perinatal hospice choices, b/c I don’t know of any other clinicians in central VT with this cross-training. Feel free to give my name out to someone who would have a difficult time finding another care option and encourage them to call, even if I’m not advertising as having space available. Can’t promise, but I’ll do my best!
