Being open to a variety of approaches allows me to remain flexible and open in my work with you. I do not believe that challenges happen in a vacuum, but rather we are all influenced by past experience as well as our social context. Acknowledging the external (such as racism, sexism, or homophobia) when combined with attention to what’s going on inside of you (such as grief, anger, shame) provides a framework that allows for a deep source of understanding.
I draw from psychodynamic theory to understand the impact of early experiences and those things that are outside of our consciousness. I draw from other theories (family systems, developmental, cognitive behavioral, and mindfulness) to guide interventions. My ultimate goal is to build a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship and to address your particular needs at a pace that is right for you.
