Kirtan has its roots in the Hindu tradition and is a form of Bhatki Yoga (yoga of the heart). Kirtan encompasses the call and response and communal experience of meditative chanting/singing of mantras. This meditative experience can be a very healing and a unique way for people to connect with one another through the experiential vibrations of singing and playing musical instruments in community. The experience of community based kirtan may become a powerful tool for those who have faced challenges with stress, isolation, grief or loss, addiction, trauma, pain, sleep, depression, anxiety, and other experiences.
