The People’s Pride Burlington

June 26, 2021 @ 1:00 pm

Pride has unequivocally been stolen.
Over the years, what started as a fiery celebration of LGBT+ liberation has been parasitized by a cancerous collection of banks, corporations, politicians, and police – the very same institutions that dragged us kicking and screaming out of our meeting places, who stole our homes as we lay dying of HIV/AIDS, who minimized and ignored our plight while using us as tools in their power plays. Just because they’ve found that the rainbow makes for a fetching mask, doesn’t mean that they’ve changed.
This year, we’re taking it back!🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏴
Join us at The People’s Pride – a guerilla event that seeks to reunite Liberation and Celebration on the weekend leading up to Stonewall Day. We will dance atop those who seek to sanitize us into a more profitable demographic, jeer in the faces of those who cover their crimes in the rainbow, and teach each other to be freer – and gayer – than any institution could ever imagine.

Meet us at the top of Church Street at 1pm with signs/banners/glitter/noise-makers and your best fit for a celebratory parade/march. We will end up at Pomeroy Park to enjoy performances and art displays by local queer/LGBT+ artists, including but not limited to:
🎸Music by Forest Sims, Patricia Bristow-Johnson, Tasheff, The Burning Sun (Katy Hellman & co), tip/toe, and Marxist Jargon (bring your dancing shoes!)
🎤Poetry and spoken word by Harmony Edosomwan, Z Wilcox, Shawny KC, and Peach Kilroy
👯Drag performance by Cupid Blix the Drag Prince
🎨Visual Art displays by Cat Vargas, Sarah Wentworth, Wravenwood Studios, Kelsey Perrotte, Erica Aradia, Amelia Harju, Joules Garcia, Fen Kershaw, Eliza LaRock (WeepySheep), Lauren Daye, Moody C, Nat Campbell, Tali Friedman
…and more!
🥪Food Not Bombs and People’s Kitchen will be serving up delicious food.
✊BTV CopWatch and other rad community groups will be present with literature and info on how to get involved.
🪧Stay tuned for info on sign-making party, de-escalation training, and copwatch training in the lead-up to the main event!
