CANCELED: Pride Hikes: Red Rocks Park

November 14 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

This event has been canceled due to recent COVID-19 guidelines from Governor Scott. (11/13/20)
To sign up to be one of the ten lucky Pride Hikers this month, email Gwendolyn Causer at Audubon Vermont to save your space: gwendolyn.causer@audubon.org. They will confirm your spot for the hike.
LGBTQIA++ hikers (and birders) are gathering in November to stroll the trails of Red Rocks Park in South Burlington. This gem of a park is located right on the shores of Lake Champlain. We’ll plan to do an easy, accessible hike on a two mile loop which winds through wetlands, forests, and spectacular rocky ledges and viewpoints. We will have plenty of options for the length, direction, and difficulty of our adventure.
All ages, allies, and families welcome! Youth under 18 years should be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Dogs are very welcome as long as they are leashed.
Pride Hikes are a collaboration between Audubon Vermont, the Pride Center of Vermont, and Outright Vermont. Pride Hikes have been happening every month since June of 2018 and go beyond being “welcoming to everyone” to creating a safe, affirming space for LGBTQIA++ community members.
Your Pride Hikes co-hosts this month:
Gwendolyn Causer (she/her) – Audubon Vermont, Teacher/Naturalist and Communications Manager. Gwendolyn’s first love in nature is botany and she does most of her birding by ear. She is passionate about creating equitable access to nature for communities not traditionally included in the environmental movement. Gwendolyn will be introducing her new pup Billy to the Pride Hikes this month.
Reggie Condra (he/him), Pride Center of Vermont, Health and Wellness Coordinator. Noting a general lack of visibility, Reggie began a podcast (“Brown ‘n Out”) highlighting LGBTQ people of color living in Vermont in 2018. Through his work at the Pride Center, Reggie aims to better serve the needs of all community members with special focus on these intersecting identities.
Amanda Rohdenburg (she/her) – Outright Vermont, Associate Director. Amanda grew up in New Hampshire and the woods in New England feel like home.

Trail/accessibility information: Our walk will be at an easy pace and will cover less than 2 miles. We are very flexible about the trails we choose based upon the needs of the group. The trails are wide and on a base of crushed rock. If you require accommodations or have questions about accessibility, please contact Audubon Vermont at gcauser@audubon.org.
