Pride Hikes: Common Ground Center
May 4, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Join us Saturday, May 5 at the Common Ground Center for May’s Pride Hike! When you picture a scenic Vermont getaway, chances are that image looks a lot like Common Ground Center. Rolling, green fields bordered by quiet woods, with mountains visible in the distance. Barn spaces, cozy cabins. A boulder-strewn creek with the calm of babbling water. A swimming pond, campfires, stars, fireflies.
We will follow the Yellow Trail along Lewis Creek for a stretch and then double back to explore spring ephemerals and unique rock formations. The trail will take about 30 minutes to walk and then we can spend some time observing nature by the river, admire spring ephemerals, and looking/listening for birds.
Pride Hikes are a collaboration between Audubon Vermont and the Pride Center of Vermont. Pride Hikes have been happening every month since June of 2018 and go beyond being “welcoming to everyone” to creating a safe, affirming space for LGBTQIA2S+ community members.
Trail information: No dogs, sorry! Yellow Trail (easy to moderate) is the closest trail to main campus, this loop trail is accessed by crossing the road from the farmhouse and walking north along the creek. Because of the dominant hemlocks, you will begin the walk in a cool shaded area. The trail meanders away from the creek, and takes a sharp left up the hill near the northern boundary of our property and loops back to the ball field. The hike takes about 30 minutes.
Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring snacks and plenty of water!
