People Not Prisons

Please join us on February 24th from 12pm-3pm at the Vermont Law School for the “People Not Prisons: Keeping People Out of Prison and Prisons Out of VT with FreeHer!” symposium organized in collaboration with FreeHer VT, The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, The National Lawyers Guild, and Vermont Law School.

This event brings together organizers, attorneys, students and survivors of carceral violence for a presentation designed to deprogram societal conditioning around prisons. Presenters from a wide range of backgrounds will discuss: statistics around the carceral state of Vermont, legal strategies to challenge incarceration and the prison industrial complex, the goals and vision of abolitionists, the effectiveness of alternatives, everyday strategies to support the abolitionist movement, and lived experiences of being incarcerated.

There will be in-person and virtual options for viewing, and the event will conclude with a social hour to encourage people to build relationships and connect with organizations.
