Pride Center of Vermont is hiring a part-time SafeSpace Anti-Violence Program Advocate. SafeSpace Advocates work in distinct and trauma-sensitive ways with 2STLGBQIA+ Vermonters impacted by domestic and sexual violence, bias, hate, discrimination, harassment, and other types of interpersonal, systemic, and community harms. This position is part of the SafeSpace Anti-Violence Program direct service team that provides advocacy (individual and group support, crisis support, advocacy, information, resource navigation, referrals, accompaniment) for and with 2STLGBQIA+ people impacted by violence and harm. Position Title: SafeSpace Anti-Violence Program Advocate
Job Type: Part Time (18-20 hours/week)
Reports To: SafeSpace Director
Benefits: Generous Paid Time Off
Compensation: $25/hour

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative

  • Participate in SafeSpace Program meetings, supervision check-ins with the Director of the SafeSpace Anti-Violence Program, and some PCVT all-staff meetings;        
  • With other staff, support fellow advocates with this work – this can look like encouraging one another to take a break, helping to process a call, etc. 

Direct Services

  • Participate in at least 20+ hours of basic advocacy training to acquire Vermont Victim and Crisis Worker Privilege as a domestic and sexual violence victim advocate;
  • Ongoing professional development to support 2STLGBQIA+ survivors of abuse, violence, and harm both within and outside systems;
  • Take regular on-call support line shifts during PCVT business hours;
  • Diligent and meticulous documentation in our confidential database of all client-related support.                                                                                                        

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Lived experience within and/or knowledge of 2STLGBQIA+ communities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression work;
  • 2+ years of anti-violence advocacy experience, relevant experience, and/or related degree;
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize and maintain boundaries effectively.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience supporting survivors of violence (stalking, sexual assault, domestic violence, and dating violence which is often combined with emotional, financial, discrimination, and/or hate violence);
  • Exceptional time management skills and follow-through;
  • Emotional self-awareness, compassion, healthy sense of humor, commitment to work/life balance, and a desire to be on a team that takes care of one another;
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite and/or Microsoft Word.
