Commonwomon

Vermont’s first women’s newspaper

Founded in 1978, Commonwomon was a newspaper run by a women’s cooperative, featuring feminist articles, editorials, and event listings. The paper, an irregular periodical, was named after a collection of poems of the same name by Judy Grahn. Writers and photographers for Commonwomon were activists themselves, volunteering their work and creating a vital source of information for the women’s community. From investigative articles to documenting women’s politics and lives, issues were packed with photos, editorials, and announcements. Copies are archived at University of Vermont’s Special Collections and in the Vermont Queer Archives here in Vermont.
