Join us on Saturday, January 25 at 7:30 pm at the Flynn Theatre on Main Street in Burlington and Sunday, January 26 at the Paramount Theatre on Center Street in Rutland. We are so excited to be partnering with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra to make their shows accessible to queer folx in both ends of the state.

All concerts begin are preceded an hour prior by Musically Speaking, a free pre-concert discussion that provides entertaining insight into the evening’s program.
VSO Music Director Jaime Laredo conducts a program featuring a rare Vermont appearance from international violin superstar Leila Josefowicz performing Alban Berg’s unconventionally gorgeous Violin Concerto. The program opens with Richard Wagner’s luscious, yearning Prelude und Liebestod, comprised of themes from the beginning and end of his epic four-hour opera Tristan and Isolde. The program closes with Felix Mendelssohn’s fifth symphony, given the name “Reformation Symphony” by Mendelssohn’s sister Fanny because it was written to honor a key event of the Protestant Reformation.

Leila Josefowicz’s passionate advocacy of contemporary music for the violin is reflected in her diverse programs and enthusiasm to perform new works. In 2008, she was awarded a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, joining prominent scientists, writers and musicians who have made unique contributions to contemporary life.
