Translating Identity Conference

For fifteen years, TIC has been the largest (and longest-running) student-run conference on campus. Our keynote this year is Kat Blaque, a transgender woman of color and feminist YouTuber, illustrator, animator, and writer who currently contributes to Everyday Feminism, Pride.com, the Huffington Post and runs a Youtube channel with tens of thousands of followers. She has appeared on Buzzfeed, MTV News and MTV's Decoded.

TIC explores a wide array of topics in discourses regarding gender and transgender identities, expressions, communities, and intersections; it is a free, student-organized, non-profit conference that seeks to reach not only the University of Vermont and the Burlington community but also the nation as a whole. A one-day event, TIC has numerous sessions to choose from at any time that are directed towards people at all levels of inclusion in the trans and allied communities. This conference is a safe space for everyone to come, learn, and enjoy themselves!

Ellie Krug speaking on 9/26

Ellie Krug speaking on 9/26
On September 26, author, lawyer, diversity/compassionate "inclusionist",  and national speaker, Ellen (Ellie) Krug will present "Getting to Ellen: Gleaning Authenticity from a Moment of Truth" in which she will share about struggling with her gender identity until a pivotal moment when it became clear that gender isn't something that one can choose. This talk will also cover how everyone--whether transgender or not--struggles with living an authentic life.

Earlier this year Advocate Magazine named Ellie as one of “25 Legal Advocates Fighting for Trans Rights.” Her memoir, Getting to Ellen: A Memoir about Love, Honesty and Gender Change (2013), details the her "gender journey" and the challenges she encountered in transitioning to female.  She is the architect of  “Gray Area Thinking”™, which addresses current societal issues surrounding “otherness” and offers a toolset for better interacting with all humans based on commonalities rather than differences.

This program is being offered by Pride Center of Vermont's Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Community Project. We hope you can join us! Monday 9/26 at 6:30 pm at the Pride Center- 255 South Champlain St. Suite #12. This event is free, all are welcome.

Trans Community Program Meeting

It has been so great to see so many amazing folks at the Trans Community Program meetings! We have been focusing on community outreach and education about TCP and its goals. Another important topic of discussion has been fostering relationships within the trans community and holding social events that center trans and GNC folks. If you would like to take part in the conversation, come to the next TCP meeting on Wednesday August 24th, from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Pride Center of Vermont. The Trans Community Program is a trans centered space, but we also welcome allies, family, and committed community members to this next meeting.
